Hail is a good reflector of energy and will return very high dBZ values. These values are estimates of the rainfall per hour, updated each volume scan, with rainfall accumulated over time. Depending on the type of weather occurring and the area of the U.S., forecasters use a set of rainrates which are associated to the dBZ values. The higher the dBZ, the stronger the rainrate. Typically, light rain is occurring when the dBZ value reaches 20. The scale of dBZ values is also related to the intensity of rainfall. The value of the dBZ depends upon the mode the radar is in at the time the image was created. Notice the color on each scale remains the same in both operational modes, only the values change. The other scale (near left) represents dBZ values when the radar is in precipitation mode (dBZ values from 5 to 75). One scale (far left) represents dBZ values when the radar is in clear air mode (dBZ values from -28 to +28). Each reflectivity image you see includes one of two color scales. The dBZ values increase as the strength of the signal returned to the radar increases. So, a more convenient number for calculations and comparison, a decibel (or logarithmic) scale (dBZ), is used. Reflectivity (designated by the letter Z) covers a wide range of signals (from very weak to very strong). "Reflectivity" is the amount of transmitted power returned to the radar receiver. Often, the most visually compelling video of severe weather is from a safe distance, which is what we always strive to achieve. The colors are the different echo intensities (reflectivity) measured in dBZ (decibels of Z) during each elevation scan. It is also important to remember that we have a very powerful zoom lens on the rooftop camera that allows us to make storm clouds that are 15 miles away look like they are right outside the window. Several studies addressing the properties of post-burn scars or their cicatricial sequelae have characterized the tegument qualitatively by examining coloration, smoothness (texture, flexibility), or thickness. 12- 15 The topical use of tretinoin with glycolic acid in both restored skin and in grafted skin has been shown to increase the extent of mouth opening in burn patients with facial scarring. 10, 11 The use of topical tretinoin improves the appearance of keloids and hypertrophic scars and seems to increase skin elasticity in scar sequelae. 9ĭue to the limitations of surgical techniques, many burn patients require additional treatment to improve the texture and appearance of their skin. Injuries that take longer to epithelize are more likely to evolve with hypertrophy. When spontaneously restored, burns that involved deep dermal injury can take from three to five weeks to epithelize completely. 4, The severity of these changes varies, depending on the depth of the original injury and other factors. 4 After tissue repair, alterations in ECM composition and organization lead to changes in the mechanical properties of the skin that result in decreased elasticity, especially in hypertrophic scars. As the scar matures and becomes less rigid, the amount of versican decreases. 4, 5 Versican, a proteoglycan with hydrophilic properties, is usually present in large amounts in recent hypertrophic scar tissue. Within the dermis, changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM) include increased concentrations of collagen fibers, which can be arranged in whorls or nodules, and decreased levels of elastic fibers. Post-burn scars induce profound changes in skin structure, such as epidermal and dermal abnormalities. A specialized multi-disciplinary professional team that can treat the multiple aspects of rehabilitation is critical for the proper re-integration of patients into their familiar professional and social environments. 1- 3īurn victims live with sequelae that may decrease their self-esteem and, therefore, their quality of life. The evolution of medical knowledge and techniques, including improved intensive care units and surgical procedures, has increased the survival of major burn patients. The best overall slab on grade performance ".The rate of heat loss from a building varies by the temperature differences between the heated and un-heated space - the colder climate and frozen ground gave more rapid heat transfer, colder in-building floor temperatures, and thus provided an opportunity to test and measure different floor slab and foundation perimeter insulation schemes. This research on floor slab heat loss rates confirmed that Photo: the radiant heat system that we had to abandon because of improper radiant heat tubing placement (too deep) and improper insulation below the slab (incomplete) includes the Thermolec B10-U electric boiler capable of providing 34,120 BTUH, circulator pumps, expansion tank, and radiant heat controls shown here as well as the entire tubing system. The 1948 heat loss research was important in part because it recognized that the rate of heat transfer from the heated building to the outside (earth and surrounding air) would be greater in proportion to the temperature difference between the heated space and the surrounding soils. for more than three successive days), they recognized the need to test slab-on-grade floors in still colder conditions - in a climate where the ground is frozen during much of the heating season. referred to that work, but because the original testing was in warmer conditions (outside temperature had not been below 35☏. "When we see green in our auras, one perspective is that perhaps that person is in a state of trying to find more harmony and balance with either themselves or within some kind of relationship with something in their lives," says Lee. Sounds blissful, right? Well, as Kermit said, it's not always easy being green. "Green is often associated with people who are in balance or in harmony," says Lee. What personality traits are associated with a green aura? "All of that is within the green spectrum," says Lee. "Green is when we are healing ourselves, in a sense." This kind of self-healing ties into vulnerability because often when you see someone be openly vulnerable, that can allow or encourage you to be more vulnerable with yourself, too. "One thing I see all the time is that green means you're a healer, and that doesn't necessarily ring true," she explains. "That's why the heart chakra deals with transformation-either transforming things from the lower chakras to the top or up down," says Lee.Īnd because the heart chakra is also about vulnerability, that's a key quality of the green aura that often gets overlooked or misconstrued, says Lee. But when we are diving more within ourselves or dealing with concepts and abstract ideas, we're working with the upper chakras. The lower three chakras deal with tangible entities, like when we are creating or manifesting things in life. "It's basically sort of a bridge between the earth and spirit," says Lee of the heart chakra. In terms of the chakra, the placement of the heart chakra-right in the middle-underscores the green aura's representation of transformation. What role does the green aura color play within all the chakras? But, she notes that it's always an internal shift, not an external one based on tangible changes within our environment. Ultimately, because our relationship with the world around us can shift often, "as we go through a lot of changes and growth, does represent that transformation," says Lee. What Your Aura Color Says About Your Personality. In that regard, it's all about trying to find balance in your life (more on that in a bit). If anything, green just represents your relationship with abundance, either having an abundance mindset or scarcity mindset. Despite popular belief, green doesn't represent that money is coming to you, says Lee. "It deals with things like compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, self-understanding, and our connectedness with ourselves and also our environment, including our relationships." Basically, the green aura determines how you navigate your relationship with just about everything in life, from friends to finances.īut for the money-minded, don't get too excited. The green aura relates to the heart chakra, which "governs our sense of love-love for ourselves, but also for other people," says Lee. Here's everything you need to know about the emerald hue, according to an expert. While every aura color is subject to change (contrary to popular belief, they're not purely based on personality traits), there's one aura color that's all about change: green. Even if you can't see the other person's aura, you can feel it.īut, before you go judging someone off their aura from a chance encounter, it's important to know that a person's aura colors tend to change over time, says Eileen Lee, an aura reader, photographer, and founder of AURA AURA. Call it a vibe, a sense, or perhaps most interestingly, an aura. Everyone gives off a certain energy that can tell you-within minutes of meeting them-whether you'll click, butt heads, or try to casually avoid each other the next time you're in the same room. It was Douglas’ father’s reaction to the whole affair that prompted the fateful court proceedings. Reportedly a dissolute, extravagant dandy, he was practically inseparable from Wilde until the latter’s arrest four years later. Douglas, the third son of the Marquess of Queensberry, was 16 years Wilde’s junior. It was an affair of the heart that would span years and continents, and would ultimately lead to Wilde’s very public downfall. Wilde (1854-1900) met Lord Alfred “Bosie” Douglas in the summer of 1891 and the two soon became lovers. His lover's father was disgusted by the liaison Three years following his release from prison, he would die, impoverished, in France. Convicted of gross indecency, he was sentenced to two years of hard labor in jail. In early 1895, the husband and father of two was at the height of his fame and success his play, Earnest, had debuted to great acclaim in February that year, making him the toast of London.īy the end of May, Wilde’s life would be turned upside down. Wilde, an Anglo-Irish playwright and bon vivant, was known for his acerbic wit and celebrated works, including Lady Windermere’s Fan, A Woman of No Importance, The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest. The artist is a critic, for does he not also dominate nature with his subjectivity, which has already been shaped by art? 'The very landscape that Corot looked at was, as he said himself, but a mood of his own mind. With their heady brew of famous names, dirty secrets and Victorian moral outrage, it’s no wonder the court trials involving renowned playwright Oscar Wilde enthralled the general public during the final decade of the 19th century. For just as the great artists, from Homer to Æschylus, down to Shakespeare and Keats, did not go directly to life for their subject-matter, but sought for it in myth, and legend, and ancient tale, so the critic deals with materials that others have, as it were, purified for him, and to which imaginative form and colour have been already added.' Art is secondary from the start. The critic only completes the work of repetition and combination begun by the artist: 'I would call criticism a creation within a creation. The critic, for Gilbert and Wilde (and Pater), is anything but a parasite on art. I assure you, my dear Ernest, that the Greeks chattered about painters quite as much as people do now-adays, and Arts and Crafts guilds, and Pre-Raphaelite movements, and movements towards realism, and lectured about art, and wrote essays on art, and produced their art-historians, and their archæologists, and all the rest of it.Īccording to Gilbert, the Greeks were in fact 'a nation of art-critics.' The critic is the one who filters art and literature through a sensibility and a prose style. By the Ilyssus there were no tedious magazines about art, in which the industrious prattle of what they do not understand.' The ironist Gilbert, who speaks for Wilde, contradicts him: In Wilde's dialogue of 1890, 'The True Function and Value of Criticism,' the straight man Ernest contends that 'the Greeks had no art-critics': 'By the Ilyssus, my dear Gilbert, there were no silly art congresses, bringing provincialism to the provinces and teaching the mediocrity how to mouth. Wilde identified the destination of Fiedler's and Hildebrand's doctrines, for once art is no longer evaluated by comparison to nature, there are no limits to the critic's power to shape the evolution of art. Wilde is deceptive: his gifts for paradox and aphorism and the absence of philosophical reference points mask the radicality of his thought. “The power of the mind over reality was expressed in a different way by Oscar Wilde, who called Pater's Studies in the Renaissance his 'golden book' and yet did not himself write poetic art criticism. He may commit a sin against society, and yet realise through that sin his true perfection.”ĭer Sozialismus und die Seele des Menschen He may be bad, without ever doing anything bad. He may keep the law, and yet be worthless. A man cannot always be estimated by what he does. And, above all things, they are not to interfere with other people or judge them in any way. After all, even in prison, a man can be quite free. That would be to fall to the same low level. Even if people employ actual violence, they are not to be violent in turn. Public opinion is of no value whatsoever. What does it signify? The things people say of a man do not alter a man. If people abuse them, they are not to answer back. If a man takes their cloak, they are to give him their coat, just to show that material things are of no importance. When they go into the world, the world will disagree with them. |
